That’s why Gascoyne Holdings helped to set up The Heart of London group, which is dedicated to continually enhancing the area for everyone to enjoy.
We focus our charitable support on projects in the local area. In recent years, we’ve supported Shelter, funding for the Chinese Community Centre and fundraising events for Soho Primary School, amongst others. We also assisted with the refurbishment of Leicester Square, in 2011/12, in conjunction with Westminster City Council, the Mayor of London and Transport for London. Totalling over £15 million, the improvements saw the creation of over 1,000 new jobs, and the area’s paving, lighting and green spaces totally revamped and refreshed.
Alongside charitable giving we support culture within the local community and were delighted to sponsor the recent CASS Arts 5 Peaks art competition. Artists competed to get their ideas commissioned for a display in Little Newport Street, the winning installation is proving very popular (pictured).
Just a moment’s walk from Leicester Square tube station, the picturesque late Victorian thoroughfare is home to a precious cluster of independent booksellers and traders. Unchanged in a century, the beautiful shopfronts, with their traditional hanging signs, are as much window into London’s past as they are into the proprietors’ trade in books, maps, prints and assorted antiquarian wares. Cecil Court offers visitors and locals a unique moment of tranquillity, deep in the West End whirl, and we’re proud to have nurtured and encouraged this distinctive, delightful island of individuality.
